About the network

The International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) is a global organization that unites and supports over 170 fact-checking organisations. The members of the network are listed here. See the team who runs the network and read the news of the global fact-checking community.

Founded in 2015, its core work focuses on combating misinformation, standardizing professional practices, and providing training and grants to media accountability initiatives worldwide. The network is housed at the Poynter Institute, a leading nonprofit journalism school, research organization and democracy watchdog, based in St. Petersburg, Florida. It operates as a global authority on media literacy, journalistic ethics, and fact-checking.

The main activities of IFCN are the followings:

• The Code of Principles: The IFCN enforces a strict Code of Principles that fact-checkers must follow to be certified. Signatories are independently audited to ensure they maintain non-partisanship, transparency in methodology, open correction policies, and sourced transparency. The process to apply to be verified as a member – called signatory – of the code of principles is explained here.
• GlobalFact Conference: The IFCN hosts the GlobalFact summit, which is the world’s largest annual gathering of fact-checking professionals to share resources, discuss technological developments, and address industry trends.
• Grants and Fellowships: Through funding vehicles like the GlobalFact Check Fund, the IFCN distributes financial support to assist journalism organizations in developing sustainable, independent fact-checking programs.
• Training and Monitoring: The IFCN provides training and digital toolkits as well as tracks global trends in the disinformation landscape, releasing the annual State of the Fact-Checkers report to outline financial challenges and audience growth within the industry. • Newsletters: you can sign up the newsletter of Poynter Institue – on some Thursdays, the newsletter highlight interesting fact-checks, global misinformation trends and training opportunities by the IFCN.
