The Circle

About the network

The Circle is a new approach to cross-border journalism and collaboration, started by four European media partners — Are We Europe (NL), Hostwriter (DE), Arty Farty (FR), and n-ost (DE) — who joined forces to create media knowledge hubs in eight European cities.

Its work is dedicated to developing new digital skills and training professionals in the journalism sector in design thinking and business innovation methodology, to give the tools to local groups of journalists and media professionals to start their own projects. Further, The Circle builds bridges between larger, established legacy media and young and independent organisations.

Projects

In October 2023, in Naples, The Circle organised an event: “Per lavorare nei media, bisogna andare via?” (To work in media, do we have to leave?) The event brought together journalists, media professionals and university students in a heartfelt conversation about the state of the media in southern Italy and what sorts of opportunities are out there for the people who want to stay put and work in media. Over 80 people attended the event, and the response was overwhelmingly positive, showing that people are interested in networks, collaboration and exchange.
