About the network
The Investigative Journalists NGO is a prominent media organization dedicated to advancing in-depth investigative reporting in Armenia. Founded in 2000 as a recognized legal entity, its overarching mission is to foster the development of investigative journalism while actively strengthening freedom of speech and democratic principles across the country. In 2001, the organization launched Hetq, a highly respected online news platform that serves as its primary publishing arm, producing hard-hitting investigative articles, documentaries, and multimedia stories on a daily basis.
The network currently comprises a dedicated team of 20 to 50 staff journalists. While its geographic focus is primarily national, the organization is deeply integrated into the global investigative community. It remains open to new members and is committed to building local capacity by facilitating the exchange of practical know-how, providing specialized training, and collaborating on grant applications to sustain independent media.
The organization provides vital support and infrastructure for complex reporting. Their work is built around several core pillars:
- Investigative Production: Delivering high-quality daily news, long-form investigations, and multimedia documentaries that hold power to account.
- Global Collaboration: Partnering with international investigative networks to track illicit wealth and cross-border corruption.
- Capacity Building: Providing editorial support, project management, and specialized training in modern journalism techniques, including data analysis and data visualization.
- Audience Engagement: Utilizing advanced social media and marketing strategies to ensure their public-interest reporting reaches and engages a broad audience.
Demonstrating their capacity for high-level, complex investigations, the Investigative Journalists NGO has served as a crucial Armenian partner in several of the world’s most significant cross-border investigative projects. Their team has actively collaborated on global, groundbreaking exposés including the Panama Papers, Pandora Papers, the Troika Laundromat, and the Dubai Unlocked investigations.
