DataJournalism.com

DataJournalism.com is the home for data journalists. The community helps journalists connect and learn skills to find, verify and tell stories with data.

About the network

Datajournalism.com aims to inspire, educate and connect data journalists. It is a learning community designed to nurture relationships and build skills to help spur innovation in data storytelling.

The team does this through free online courses, in-depth long-read articles, Discord chats, Conversations with Data newsletter and podcast. The learning curriculum and content are aimed at both budding and seasoned journalists looking to expand their data, design and coding skills.

Projects

In 2020, DataJournalism.com began producing the Conversations with Data podcast, which takes the audience behind the scenes of how journalists tell and design stories with data. The Q&A style podcast features in-depth interviews with investigative journalists and data journalists discussing their groundbreaking work. Up to October 2023, the team has released 57 episodes, generating over 43,000 listens worldwide. Conversations with Data has been in Apple’s weekly top 200 educational podcast rankings in the following countries: Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Kazakstan, Spain, Denmark, Egypt, Ireland, Ecuador, Mongolia, Belarus, Pakistan, Austria, New Zealand, Qatar, Norway, Poland, Hungary, and Trinidad & Tobago. The Conversations with Data newsletter, which includes a written Q&A of the podcast, has an open rate of 36% with over 11,000 subscribers.

The DataJournalism.com network supported the core team in leading on two annual industry surveys in 2022 and 2021. The State of Data Journalism Survey aimed to show the findings of the industry trends from around the world. The survey was translated into several languages and had a global reach within the industry. A total of 1809 people took The State of Data Journalism Survey 2022, while 1594 respondents participated in 2021.
