About the network

This network is for those is who want to focus on all aspects of the climate crisis and who want to do in-depth, investigative work. It is an open-access network by and for journalists,  who want to focus on all aspects of the climate crisis and who want to do in-depth, investigative work. The network also serves a community devoted to exposing financial greed, corruption, and government malaise that fuel the climate crisis.

It offers journalists a hub for collaboration, discussion and learning from each other and meet at the Climate Arena Conference, the flagship activity of the network. It is an annual event, complemented by a fellowship programme and customised trainings to early- and mid-career journalists. The network also initiates, coordinate or support large scale, cross-border, data-intensive investigate journalism projects.

Major projects investigations were:

  • Green to Grey (2025–2026): A multi-newsroom data investigation coordinated by Arena and 11 other European news teams, revealing that Europe’s undeveloped natural land is disappearing up to 1.5 times faster than previously thought. This project won a prestigious Sigma Award in 2026.
  • Under the Surface (2024): A 5-month, 14-journalist investigation spanning seven countries that mapped Europe’s aquifers and exposed the hidden crisis of groundwater depletion and pollution.
  • Forever Pollution Project (2023): An investigation involving 16 European newsrooms exposing that nearly 23,000 sites across Europe are contaminated with PFAS “forever chemicals”.
