About the network
Are We Europe (AWE) is non-profit media collective and foundation working toward a borderless, Pan-European media space. Founded in 2016 by four friends who were disillusioned by how traditional media covered Europe, the organization has grown into a major foundation with a dedicated team split between Brussels and Amsterdam. AWE unites a community of over 1,000 creatives, freelancers, and staff journalists all over Europe and beyond, working on productions and projects that break down borders and collaborate across multiple disciplines and formats.
The network provides infrastructural and editorial support, and its members are heavily skilled in community outreach, data analysis, interactive digital formats, multimedia production, event organization, and design thinking.
The collective’s reporting focuses heavily on identity and systemic issues, covering several core public-interest categories:
- Democracy & Politics: Exploring European identities, political governance, and structural challenges across the continent.
- Climate & Environment: Reporting on ecological crises and sustainable futures through innovative lenses.
- Human Rights & Migration: Highlighting marginalized perspectives, border issues, and human rights.
- Health & Social Issues: Investigating societal shifts and community welfare.
Network Projects & Initiatives Are We Europe spearheads several major collaborative programs and cross-border projects that challenge traditional media conventions:
- The Circle Hubs: A collaborative initiative designed to establish dynamic media knowledge hubs in several European cities to foster local-to-cross-border coordination.
- Untold Stories: A dedicated project that uncovers and amplifies narratives from regions and countries that are underrepresented on the broader European stage.
- ENTR: A large-scale network of content creators producing engaging multimedia stories with a distinct European angle for social media and digital platforms.
