About the network
ICIJ Europe is an affiliate of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, that is dedicated to strengthening collaborative investigative journalism in Europe. Established in 2022, ICIJ Europe provides training and capacity building for European journalists to collaborate with peers across borders, investigate transnational wrongdoing and hold power to account.
ICIJ Europe’s regional focus works to:
- Educate media professionals, like journalists and editors, on investigative methods that create transparency around systemic failures, to inform and civilly engage the public.
- Promote understanding of shared challengesin Europe and beyond, with hands-on training that connects media in different countries to uncover shared issues.
- Strengthen civic responsibilityby equipping the independent media landscape to explain and communicate complex, transnational issues so that citizens may make informed decisions.
ICIJ Europe’s flagship project is Collaborative Journalism Europe in a Global Context (CJEGC). Co-funded by the European Union, the initiative unites reporters from across Europe to build cross-border skills and collaborate with global peers through hands-on projects that drive real-world change. Led by ICIJ with partners from the Baltic region, Central Europe, South-East Europe and Western Balkans, CJEGC is covering different perspectives and regions in Europe. In this collaboration, ICIJ and its partners will foster a peer-to-peer network of trust.
CJEGC was launched in November, 2025 and will produce impactful cross-border investigations and equip independent newsrooms to lead their own collaborative projects, strengthening media resilience to economic and digital challenges until the end of 2027. Main partners are the following:
